Freshman Year in Review

This year was a whirlwind of new routines, relationships, and opportunities I could never have thought of. Since this was my freshman year of college, I had a lot of new things to get used to. I lived on campus, so I learned how to live on my own and with my roommates. Outside of my living arraignments I got to know so many different people that have given me new ideas and opportunities on where I want my life to head. My first semester I got a job at the Lytle Park Hotel. This job has allowed me to get to know all kinds of people and tremendously improve my soft skills. It has been an amazing experience and will continue to help me grow in my professional identity.

Another impactful event that is universally experienced by college students was exam week. I passed all my exams with flying colors in my first and second semester. This not only helped prove to myself that I can achieve anything with hard work, but instilled confidence in my academic ability within a colligate atmosphere. Having a supportive network of professors and peers around me helped empower me to perform at my best. My network then expanded by joining Lindner Women in Business my first semester.

LWiB has been a great experience all year. I was recruited in my senior year of high school and have been excited to join ever since then. I’ve been able to meet people who share the values as me and create my own community. I plan on pursuing a leadership position once I get more experience in my desired field.

All these experiences have affected how I see my professional and personal self. I have improved my skills, confidence, and made so many new connections that I would have never thought would happen.

Overall, the trajectory of my personal and professional goals is still relatively the same. I have been able to specify what I want to do in the future. I want to have a position of leadership in a company that deals with cosmetics, fashion, or is its own independent marketing firm. I would also like to work in the brand management category of marketing. I think this would appeal to my creative and analytical sides equally and be a really good fit for me long-term. This has motivated me to achieve some professional and academic goals in the next year.

These goals include pursuing an internship for a local company or doing research for the University of Cincinnati next summer. I am also going to complete my second University Honors Program experience in December of this year by going on a study tour. I will be traveling to Cairo, Egypt to explore the local cultures and lifestyles. I am also planning on going to Spain in the spring to count as one of my Marketing course requirements. These experiences along with the challenging course work I will be completing will encourage growth and the mindset of a global citizen scholar and help me create a brighter future.
